Chapter Six: Kitty: Revelations
Kitty hated hiding things from her brother. But it was for the best – Steven would flip if he knew she had succumbed to a one-night stand. Plus she didn't know who Steven would be more mad at – Blake for taking advantage of his sister, or Kitty for allowing herself to be taken in by such an obvious charmer.
She had been looking forward to introducing Blake to Steven over breakfast. Although her brother might have been a little uncomfortable with the thought of his sister ”hooking up” with a guy, Kitty had been convinced that her and Blake had such chemistry and so much in common that Steven would be very quickly won over.

Although her brother might have been a little uncomfortable with the thought of his sister ”hooking up” with a guy, Kitty had been convinced that her and Blake had such chemistry and so much in common that Steven would be very quickly won over.
But now instead she had mumbled her way through breakfast and headed out ”to work”, even though there were no sing-a-grams scheduled for a few hours.
Kitty couldn't help but replay the previous night in her head. It had seemed so perfect, so right. She kicked herself mentally over and over again for falling for the oldest trick in the book. Aspiring wannabe-starlet falls for dashing ”celeb” who can ”put in a good word for her” with an agent. It wasn't like her to be so naive and stupid.
But those eyes....that smile. She wanted to be be angry with Blake. She wanted to give him a piece of her mind for loving and leaving her. But, as she had to admit to herself, even so, mainly she just wanted him...
Breakfast hadn't quite done the trick of clearing Kitty's fuzzy head, still slightly achey from the not-unsubstantial quantity of nectar consumed last night. She didn't want to head down to the Beach Hut, since it was so close to home, so she decided to cross the park and head out to the far side of town. She hadn't spent a lot of time in this area – most of her sing-a-grams were in the centre of town – but she thought she'd have time to grab a quick cup of coffee in one of the cafes over there before starting work.
Kitty's thoughts kept returning to Blake. She remembered that he had a recording contract today. 'Hmmm...I bet he and his agent are busy laughing right now at the naive wannabe,' she lamented to herself. 'I'm just another notch on the bedpost – a woo-hoo memory – so why does it still feel like it was something more?' she wondered. She thought back to his smile, his kisses, his touch. Surely no-one could fake that much passion?

'Pull yourself together Kitty' she inwardly scolded herself. She'd have plenty of time to dwell on her stupid mistake, but right now she needed caffeine, and to push negative thoughts from her mind. She'd be starting work in a while, and it wouldn't do to look all morose while earning her keep.
Kitty pushed the door to the cafe open and started rummaging around in her pockets for spare change, barely noticing the barista behind the counter, who was busy cleaning the coffee machine.
”A Vanilla latte, please.”
Kitty stopped rummaging and looked up. The barista hadn't turned around. ”Excuse me, I asked for a vanilla....oh!”
Kitty looked at the barista's shoulder length white-blond hair. Her stomach lurched.
”Blake?” She uttered his name at barely more than a whisper.
The barista turned around. There was no mistaking those violet eyes, even if they weren't meeting Kitty's own.
”How did you know I was here?” Blake asked, still not looking directly at Kitty.
”I didn't, I mean I wasn't looking. I just wanted to find a quiet cafe, some time to think. I had no idea,” she continued, then paused as a thought struck her. ”Wait. Don't you have a meeting today about your recording contract?” And then quietly, as an afterthought, ”You might have at least said goodbye before you left this morning...”

Blake's colleague had just started her shift, so Blake asked Kitty to step outside with him, so they could talk.
”You had no right to treat me like that” started Kitty, her shock at seeing him now turning to anger. To his credit, thought Kitty, Blake did look suitably abashed. ”Why didn't you at least have the guts to even leave a number or a note?”

”I don't know,” Blake sighed. ”I was embarrassed I guess. You see I'm not in the 'Biz'. I tried getting a recording contract when I moved to Starlight Shores from Bridgeport, but well, the constant rejections started to get me down. My post-college fund had been pretty much used up on buying my house, and I didn't want to move back to Bridgeport and be taunted for being a failure.
”But living on my own taught me a lot about myself. For one thing, I had to learn how to cook, and I actually discovered that i was pretty good at it. So I've been working here to pay the bills and save up for cooking classes.”

Kitty raised an eyebrow. She was about to have a go at him for lying to her last night, but Blake continued talking.
”As I said last night, I'd seen you around town and was hoping to meet you at some point. I even considered splurging some of my savings on a sing-a-gram with you! Then last night, when I saw you in the bar, I wanted to impress you so much. So I lied. But as the evening went on, I realised that you weren't just some pretty girl I'd admired from a far, but that you were also witty, sweet and sexy. You were – are – incredibly special. And last night was amazing!
”I woke up earlier than you this morning and I got to thinking. I knew I couldn't pretend to be a star - even a minor one - for very long, and that you, who are clearly destined for great things, would want nothing to do with a struggling waiter/kitchen assistant. So I ran off, hoping you'd get mad and then move on. Lowest of the low, I know. And I am so sorry. I would do anything to roll back time and not hurt you.”
Kitty's mind whirred as she tried to process everything she'd just heard. She hadn't been used. He thought she wouldn't want to be with him. And, if she was getting this right, Blake thought that she was something special. As she stood there looking at a sorrowful looking Blake, all of her anger melted away.
Eyes shining she took Blake's hands in hers.

”I don't think I mentioned last night,” she started, smiling at Blake, ”but I'm a terrible cook – really lousy. Maybe you could teach me a thing or two...” And then she leant in to kiss him....
**************************************************
Blake soon had to go back in from his break, and Kitty had to head off for her first gig of the day, leaving without the coffee she'd come for, but with a much lighter heart than when she'd arrived. They'd made plans to meet up that evening, away from bars and distractions, so that Kitty and Blake could just talk, really get to know each other and then take it from there.
As she headed off to
her gig, she walked back through the main park. In the distance she
spotted Steven laughing, actually laughing, with a pretty woman and
her cute dog.
'I hope she's making you as happy as I feel right now, brother. It looks like we both need to sit down and have a proper catch-up,' she thought to herself as she walked on, unable to wipe the smile off her face. And clearly her sing-a-gram recipients thought so too, as their feedback on Kitty's upbeat cheerful performances today got back to her employer, and she was rewarded with a promotion. She was now seen as the local favourite sing-a-gram performer in Starlight Shores, meaning that she would be seen singing at celebrity houses and the hottest joints in town – perfect for being spotted!. Plus she got a cute new outfit to wear, that would be perfect for performing in around the city.

'Who would have thought that today would end like this!' she thought to herself, as she handed back her old uniform, and went home for a well earned break, full of anticipation for the evening, days and weeks ahead.'
